At last night’s Kettering City Council meeting, Council unanimously voted to approve the sale of three acres of land on East David Road to The Modern College of Design for the construction of student housing.
The Modern began exploring the project during their initial campus expansion, which tripled the size of their facility and opened in 2018. The Modern has invested over $7M in expansion and renovations to the campus since 2017 to accommodate the growing enrollment in The Modern’s Associate’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Completion programs.
Each year, approximately 60–70% of The Modern’s student body relocates to Kettering to attend the college. The Modern currently partners with Collegiate Housing Services to assist students in finding safe and comfortable accommodations in the Kettering area. The Modern plans to build housing to accommodate up to 100 first-year students.
“Offering student housing will allow us to expand our recruitment efforts and attract creative and diverse students, both nationally and internationally, to Kettering,” shared President Jessica Barry.
“I am thankful for Kettering City Council’s support in this endeavor, which will benefit our future students and the Kettering community.”
The Modern is exploring the project with Miller-Valentine Group and will also review other competitive bids. The Modern’s administration will spend the next six months researching the project further.
