Graphic Design Instructor

Adjunct / Part-Time

As an adjunct Graphic Design instructor, the employee reports directly to the school's Chief Academic Officer.

The Instructor Will:

  • Maintain a high level of integrity and ethics
  • Provide strong student support demonstrated through problem-solving, positive attitude, and approachability
  • Encourage student learning and create an inclusive environment
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate learning materials and assessments
  • Ensure all activities are carried out within the rules and guidelines of The Modern

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach each semester in the area(s) of competency and participate as an instructor in the activities of the department and college.
  2. Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline.
  3. Aid in the development of course objectives, projects, and content.
  4. Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
  5. Plan, develop, and use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles.
  6. Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
  7. Teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and support activities that encourage student success. The role of the faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development, and institutional service.
  8. Assist the admissions department by greeting prospective students and families and participating in admissions events.
  9. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  10. Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the Chief Academic Officer
  11. Learn and apply technologies that support student learning and keep pace with developments in the discipline.
  12. Participate in the evaluation process for self, department, and college.
  13. Attend all required faculty, staff meetings, and training held at The Modern.
  14. Make recommendations for learning resources and equipment.
  15. Meet the professional development goals of The Modern.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or master's degree in Graphic Design or a related field and a minimum of four years of experience in the related discipline. Must have daytime availability and willingness to work flexible hours. Experience and familiarity with the art & design industry is a plus.
