Modern Students Place Second in Competition Sponsored by Indeed

The Modern College of Design is proud to announce that its student marketing team took second place at the National Student Advertising Competition District 5 event on April 22, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, second-year student Carly Utter was named “Best Presenter.”

West Virginia University won third place, and the University of Kentucky won first. Western Kentucky University and Youngstown State University also competed in the competition.

The National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), is the premier college advertising competition in the nation, providing more than 2,000 students with the experience of creating a strategic marketing campaign for a corporate sponsor. Students develop a marketing plan and pitch their work to sponsors and advertising professionals at the district, semi-final, and national levels.

Advised by instructors Clancy Boyer, Jan Burden, and A.J. Busé, a team of talented students created a strategic marketing campaign for Indeed. Students worked throughout the spring semester to collect data and discover insights that could drive Indeed’s engagement with Gen Z. The team traveled to Columbus and pitched their campaign to a panel of judges made up of industry professionals. They received high praise for their proposed partnership with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and the design of their pitch book.

The 2023 NSAC team members include Izzy Bunke, Bethany Clack, Mariya Dydyk, Karleen Goffinett, Makena Griffin, Destiny Harvey, Abby Henkle, Arianna Heyl, Kaylee Lade, Riley Mantia, Paige Phillips, Amaya Schreiber, Jay Stapleton, Brandon Stewart, Carly Utter, Lauren Vagedes, Mav Valentine, Trinity Walters, Lilly Woodard, and Taceana Zelaya.

“Modern students have a unique blend of design, strategic marketing, and business skills,” stated Jessica Barry, President of The Modern. “This unique combination of skills makes them strong competitors at the National Student Advertising Competition and throughout their careers.”
