The Modern has launched a new monthly event designed to help students strengthen their professional skills and prepare for their future careers. The event, LinkUP, brings industry leaders to campus for networking and mentorship opportunities.
Organized by Director of Career Services Katie Looney, the event gives students the chance to meet with professionals in a supportive environment. “Being able to present yourself confidently and build essential soft skills is just as important as the technical side of design,” Looney explained. “LinkUP helps students practice those skills with industry professionals before they graduate.”
The first LinkUP event welcomed partners from The Ohlmann Group, a respected Dayton-based marketing and advertising agency. Students had the opportunity to connect with Creative Director, Jon Brooks, (Modern Class of '86) and Graphic Designer, Karleen Goffinett (Modern Class of '23). Several Modern graduates have also built their careers at Ohlmann, continuing the strong connection between The Modern and The Ohlmann Group.
Events like LinkUP highlight The Modern’s commitment to building students’ career-ready skills and providing real-world experiences that prepare them for success after graduation.
