80 Students Graduate from The Modern

80 students accepted an Associate Degree of Applied Business in Design on June 1 at the Dayton Masonic Center.

Students graduated with an essential combination of skills in graphic design, web design, video and motion design, photography, and illustration. They have also studied marketing and communications, and are well equipped and excited to begin their professional careers in the design industry.

Valedictorians were Shelby Miller and Adam Richardson. Other top graduates were Abby Beneke, Owen Rendel, Rachael Shurte, Angelica Weimer, Josey Allen, Nina Wurzelbacher, Ethan VanEtten, and Madison Weber.

Michael Bonilla, retired instructor from The Modern, was recognized as the 2019 Honorary Degree recipient. Bonilla served as an art and illustration instructor at college for over 20 years.

Director and CEO of the Dayton Art Institute (DAI), Michael Roediger, was the 2019 Commencement Speaker. Roediger is guiding DAI through its Centennial year and is a leader in the arts community.
